Mathew Maina

Mathew is the Executive Director of Acorn Investment Management Limited (AIML), where he leads the REIT management business and drives the execution of its strategies. His responsibilities span asset management, investor relations, corporate governance, and the promotion of the retail aggregator platform, VUKA. He plays a key role in institutional fundraising, deepening capital markets, and aggregating capital from institutional investors. Mathew has been instrumental in expanding the capital structure of the Acorn REITs, including overseeing the issuance of various capital market instruments. Notably, he led the early retirement of Acorn’s maiden Green Bond ahead of schedule in 2024, as well as the multiple issuances under the ASA D-REIT and I-REIT Fixed Income Note programs.

With over 18 years of experience in investment management and fund administration— including segregated retirement funds across East and Southern Africa—Mathew brings deep
industry expertise to his role. He is an alumnus of the Oxford Real Estate Programme (Class of 2024) and holds a bachelor’s degree (Honors) in Actuarial Science from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology (JKUAT). He is a Certified Full Member (FA/00945) of the Institute of Certified Investment and Financial Analysts (ICIFA) and holds professional certifications from the Chartered Institute for Securities & Investment (CISI).

Mathew serves on the Main Committee of the REITs Association of Kenya and currently chairs the REIT Issuance Committee.
