Given the demand for real estate investments, Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) in Kenya, both Income REITs (I-REITs) and Development REITs (D-REITs) portend a significant potential to contribute to national economic growth, employment creation and local capital market development.  Key policy initiatives have been put forward to enhance uptake of REITs based on limitations cited by the market and comparing them with the global best practices.

The forum aimed to:

• Present key stakeholders and potential REIT issuers an overview of the operational structure & requirements in structuring and operationalizing both Income and Development REITs in the capital markets.
• Present the current regulatory landscape of REITs to key stakeholders and potential issuers.
• Present key lessons learnt by existing REIT issuers in the market.
• Understand key REITs industry policy, legal & operational challenges to inform necessary policy and legislative recommendations to promote uptake; and
• Obtain targeted feedback to improve uptake of REITs.
